Something Different Rebuilding of Beechins

I thought I would bring you something completely different on the blog this lunchtime…. I know many of you have been asking about the progress of the house, so I thought I would bring you up to date. As many of you know James and I brought a house that was a little bit ‘tired’! It was in fact as if time had stood still from 1960 to May 2014, many thought we were mad, and a few said why did you not knock it down? The reason was simple, we wanted to honour it past whilst bringing the house right up to date, we wanted an American/Canadian style home, something that would remind us of the houses we had when we lived there…. We wanted open plan, traditional North American living in the heart of Kent….. For the last 6 months we have lived inside the old bungalow whilst all around construction went on, and I have project managed every step along the way as well as running my very busy photography business. It’s not quite finished inside, but its not far off, but today is a really emotional day as the scaffolding that has kept us hidden is coming down. We could not have done it without the amazing Architect – John Harmer who took our ideas and put them to paper, the guys from Lancaster Builders, who came to the rescue, not once but twice first when the groundworkers had to be changed and secondly when it became very apparent that Ashford Lofts would never be able to bring this house to reality. Lancasters have been amazing and I think there will be tears when they leave (and not just from James!!!) Over the weeks we have eaten a lot of cake along the way we have had quite a few laughs. Building your own Grand Design is testing, it pushes you to the edge, you do not sleep or if you do its because you are exhausted!!.
