When we planned this trip back in March I do not think any of use really knew what to expect or how far we would get with finding where James & George’s Grandfather & Grandmother lived or where their Mother was born! At best I think we thought we may find the grave where their Grandfather was buried or go to the Court house and find out a few details or just stand in Raton!

What we could not have prepared ourselves for was New Mexican hospitality and how so many people went out of their way to help us. From the moment we checked into the Hearts Desire B&B and met Barbara we knew these were special people.

Mark Kossler who we made contact with at Vermajo Ranch went out of his way to let us have access to the compound where their Grandfather worked in the mine and put in contact with Caroline & Jack Woodall and Caroline’s brother’s Kenny & Johnny who took us to the see the house’s that still stand today, we visited the mine where their Grandfather worked – it was a truly fantastic day.

We then went for lunch at the St James’s Hotel and sat and chatted as if we had all know each other forever.

This evening we visited Caroline & Jack’s hillside home, high above Raton.

And tomorrow Roger is opening the museum which is normally closed so we can visit!!

To everyone we have meet and who have helped us fill in so many gaps we thank you.
