LYMPNE CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Lympne Castle is a beautiful medieval 13th Century Grade 1 listed castle, set high on the hillside in the village of Lympne overlooking the English Channel, it is the perfect setting for a fairytale wedding. The castle has everything that you would expect from a castle from this century, a panelled Great Hall, roof beams and medieval windows. It makes the perfect backdrop to your wedding whatever the season, with its beautiful gardens and views from spring to late summer, to its’s open fireplaces in the autumn and winter months.

I have been a recommended photographer at the castle since 2008 and absolutely love to photograph weddings at Lympne Castle.

HELP AND ADVICE FOR PLANNING YOUR PERFECT DAY

Lympne Castle in situated in the village of Lympne, between Ashford and Folkestone and is about two-miles off junction 11 of the M20. When you leave the M20 you head towards Hythe on the A20 at the A261 junction take Stone Street to Aldington Road turn right and then left on to The Street where you will find the castle on your right. There is ample parking just past the castle entrance.

WEDDINGS AT LYMPNE CASTLE

Until now all the ceremonies took place in the west wing in its beautiful dark panelled wall room, however new for weddings from Spring 2016 you can now have an outdoor wedding in their summer house with sea views. Whichever option you select for your wedding at Lympne Castle, you will not be disappointed.

WEST WING WEDDINGS

The west wing holds between 90-100 guests to see you exchange vows… overlooking the English Channel, you will say ‘I do’ in the large window watched by your guests. I love the west wing it looks fabulous at anytime of year, but for me it comes into it’s own when it is lit by candlelight.

SUMMER HOUSE WEDDINGS

New for the Spring of 2016, Lympne Castle is now offering couples the opportunity to have an outdoor wedding in their summer house with sea view’s. The summer house ceremony is also the perfect option for the couple looking to have a larger number of guests attend their special day as they can combine this with the reception in the marque that is available for weddings from March through to October, whilst retaining hat beautiful castle wedding feel.

TIMINGS AND NUMBERS

  • The castle holds up to a maximum of 100 guests
  • The marque holds up to a maximum of 200 guests
  • Ceremony start time is 14:00
  • The wedding breakfast is 16:00 – please note if you decide to have a greeting line you will need to allow 30 minutes off this time.
  • First dance is approximately 19:30

PHOTOGRAPHY ON THE DAY

I always start with the biggest group photograph when it comes to the more formal photos, this helps to get through the photos quicker and ensures that guests do not get bored and wander off.

I normally photograph all my group photos in the main courtyard at the front of the castle, as this area is perfectly shaded for photos. The large group photograph I photograph from one of the upstairs windows as an aerial shoot so that you can see all the guests on the day and then smaller family photos are photographed against the castle.

PHOTOS OF THE TWO OF YOU ALONE

The number one photograph on every couples wish list who gets married at Lympne Castle is a photograph on the lawn with the castle in the background, I generally take this as one of the last photos when I am taking the photos of the two of you alone or if you have decided not to have a greeting line, I will take the photograph then whilst your guests are being seated so that there are no photos of guests in the background.

As well as photographs on the lawn there are many other lovely locations for photographs at the castle and all within walking distance, so you are never far away from your guests.

OTHER PHOTOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES

If time allows on the day there is always the option to head to Hythe beach for photographs of just the two of you, or depending on the time of year and the package you select there is always options of photos at the ‘golden hour‘ or even night photography.

A VENUE FOR ALL SEASONS

Whatever the time of year, the castle always looks spectacular… I have been lucky enough to photograph weddings at Lympne Castle in all four seasons and in all types of weather.

ACCOMMODATION

Lympne Castle has cottages available for guests to stay in overnight and these can be booked direct with the team at the castle, in addition there is also many local B&B’s nearby or you have the towns of Hythe, Folkestone and Ashford that offer larger hotel facilities.

If you are thinking of getting married at Lympne Castle then I would love to hear about your exciting plans… If you would like to arrange an informal chat over coffee and cake then give me a call on 01233 642773
