Rarely do you meet such a inspirational lady, I wanted to share with you, her incredible story and her beautiful photographs – a celebration of her very difficult journey.
I first met Lesley and her husband Mike in 2007 when they booked me to photograph their wedding the for the following year at Little Silver Country Hotel in Tenterden. When I first met Lesley it was obvious that she was not well but I was not sure what was wrong, it was only when she collected their album that the full extent of her illness came to light.
Lesley was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis aged 19, and after many hospital admissions and bouts of illness, she received a heart and lungs transplant on 22 Nov 1997.
Initially Lesley’s recovery was good, however she then started suffering with kidney failure in 2006, and was placed on the transplant waiting list in July 2007 and started peritoneal dialysis in 2008.
In August 2009, Lesley had a stroke which she recovered fully from. Finally Lesley got the call she had been waiting for, that there was a kidney match and on 11 November 2011 she was given a Kidney Transplant.
In July 2011, Lesley was medically retired from work and since her kidney transplant has had a succession of ‘blips’ and continues to be monitored closely.
Despite her ill heath Lesley has kept very busy being a commissioned officer in the royal airforce volunteer reserve training branch and running a cadet unit.
Lesley has been married to Mike for five years, after meeting him through the air cadets in 1988, they both went onto marry other people, however their paths continually crossed and after they had split up with their partners they fell in love.
This glamorous photo shoot at Bilsington Priory was a celebration for Lesley, to say “I have been through all this and look at me now” and I think you will agree she looks fabulous!
