‘THE LOVELIEST CASTLE IN THE WORLD’
LEEDS CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
As a recommended photographer at Leeds Castle, this page is dedicated to Leeds Castle Wedding Photography and how to get the very best from your wedding day at the Castle. Set in 500 acres of beautiful parkland Leeds Castle in the heart of Kent is truly a magical place to say ‘I do’ and I have been privileged to be a recommended photographer at the Castle since 2009 when I photographed my first wedding in the main castle. Whether you choose to tie the knot in the Main Castle or Maiden’s Tower this page will help you make the most of your wedding day, with tips and advice on planning the perfect day. There are also links to clients wedding albums as well as my favourite Leeds Castle Weddings.
HELP AND ADVICE FOR PLANNING YOUR PERFECT DAY
Leeds Castle in situated just before the village of Leeds, a few miles outside Maidstone just off junction 8 of the M20, it has two entrances to the Castle and depending on where the ceremony and reception are being held determines which entrance you and your guests will need to enter the Castle through. Generally, if your wedding is in the Main Castle, you and your guests will enter through the main entrance and if your wedding is in the Maiden’s Tower you and your guests will enter via Broomfield Road Entrance.
The Main Castle is very formal and suits a more traditional style, whereas the Maiden’s Tower is more contemporary in its decor and, therefore, lends itself to any theme.
WEDDINGS IN THE MAIN CASTLE
If your wedding is taking place in the Main Castle, then your ceremony is likely to start at 16:00, and your coverage for photography will start at 13:00 (unless otherwise agreed) and depending on the package you select it will finish at either 18:00 or 21:00.
Unless otherwise selected your package will include two photographers on the day, I am with the Bride and her Bridesmaids and the second photographer will be with the Groom and the Boys… I feel that this gives better coverage and ensures that no moments are missed.
I do recommend that in order to ensure the best photographic coverage that the bride is ready and in her dress by 15:00 at the latest.
WEDDINGS IN MAIDEN’S TOWER
Ceremonies in the Maiden’s Tower start at 14:00, so coverage starts at 12:00 and finishes at either 17:00 – with a five-hour package or 20:00 – with an eight-hour package. Again unless otherwise selected your package will include two photographers.
GROUP PHOTOGRAPHY ON THE DAY
I always start with the biggest group photograph when it comes to the more formal photos, this helps to get through the photos quicker and ensures that guests do not get bored and wander off.
The Main Castle lawn is where the majority of my couples want to have their main group photographs taken, however the Castle Entrance faces directly south, so if the sun is really beating down on the Castle I recommend that for weddings in the Main Castle that an aerial photograph is taken so as to avoid squinty eyes!
Smaller group photos can then be taken to the left-hand side of Maidens Tower where there is a shaded area.
PHOTOS OF THE TWO OF YOU ALONE
I highly recommend that if you have not already done so then you arrange a golf buggy for the photographs of the two of you alone… It saves a lot of walking and means that we can cover a wider area much quicker.
The main photos on everyone’s list of must-haves are the iconic ones with the Castle in the background and I take these photos from several points around the Castle, if time allows there is also the opportunity to have photographs in herb garden, or on the golf course (assuming there is not a game of golf at the time). I have also taken photos of a couple on one of the punt boats that go around the moat, however if this is something that you want to do you will need to arrange with Leeds Castle or the person doing the punt rides.
OTHER PHOTOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES
In both the Main Castle and also Maiden’s Tower there are many photographic opportunities inside, both have lovely staircases as well as several nooks that provide a perfect backdrop for your photography.
VENUE FOR ALL SEASONS
I have photographed weddings and events at the castle in all seasons and weathers and even with really monsoon rain we have still managed to get outside and with the aid of video lighting I have also got images of the Bride and Groom outside on a December wedding when it is completely dark!
Both the Main Castle and Maiden’s Tower offers accommodation so you and your guests can stay the night.
